How To Complain And Get Results

Print tip

The big mistake most people make when they complain is they don't say what they want - they just vent.
Effective complaining means, for example, asking for a free night from that hotel that gave you poor service... airmiles from the airline that let you down some way... or even something as basic as a full cash refund.

Funnily enough, most companies would rather give you something than have you running around blowing off steam and bad mouthing them - especially when, as in the example of a free night at their hotel, it costs them very little to do so.

Incidentally, the 'atom bomb' of the complaining scene is copying in your polite but firm complaint to the people that could hurt them -
their industry body, any publication that wrote them up in the first place etc..., which is so much easier now we have the Internet.
